It started with our Sushi night on the hill Friday evening with Lauryn’s friend Rachel. The sushi was wonderful, with mango and pineapple interlaced with ahi and unagi. But the real star of the night was the city of stars itself as the restaurant’s lobby overlooks Hollywood. And on a Friday night, the halogen lamps lit up the night, highlighting premier’s, openings and who knows what else. We’ll have to find out.

Saturday was a triple-header all on its own, and it had nothing to do with baseball. We started our morning (ahem, afternoon, considering we woke up at 12) with a hike along Runyon Canyon, a trail that lines the Hollywood Hills and fittingly overlooks the famed Hollywood sign. (Its that little white block to the right of Lauryn in the photo below)
The journey took roughly an hour and Lauryn and I held our own, along with Rachel, who actually had hiked another trail that same morning! We were up to the challenge though, at least until we made our way to the ‘Devil’s Staircase’. Okay, there is no way that any part of this hike was called that, but there was some steep steps about two-thirds of the way in and my back is still sore from the ascent, so I can call it whatever I want. (See photo below and you tell me what to call it - its quite a hike!)
When we finally made it to the top I let out a little Johnny Drama-esque “Victory!” as we reached the summit (i.e. the parking lot where we started). Still a nice way to start the day. From there we headed to The Farm. Not literally a farm, but a restaurant at The Grove (which, ironically, doesn’t resemble a Grove either). We had dinner with Jerry, Allison, Jaydn and Logan along with Allison’s parents. It’s always a party with that family and The Farm feast was no different. We ended the night with another trip to The Big Chill (Travel Tip: Call ahead as their answering machine tells you the flavors of the weekend!). This time around was Cookies-and-Cream and we even brought a few quarts over to Mike and Kristy in an attempt to make week 4 of Hurricane Lila a little easier. (I had to find another way to help considering my 'holding' lasted a good 90 seconds until she had enough of the strange guy with glasses.)
The last stop on the train was actually the furthest from Chez Lukin as we woke up early on Sunday and headed North up the coast to Santa Barbara. The beautiful town boasts a Sunday Arts & Crafts show every week and Lauryn and I actually made a stop at the very same show 6 years ago when we traveled the entire Golden State. We strolled up and down the sandy sidewalks, bought very few additions to the apartment, and made sure to stop in for a fresh fish feast for lunch. Our destination was the FISHOUSE, and our meals included an Ahi-Tuna club sandwich and Seafood Skewer’s with scallops, shrimp, halibut, pineapple, and just about anything else that tastes amazing. The entire day was gorgeous and the art must have inspired Lauryn and I as we opted for a few creative photos (see below). You can decide who took which shot.
To complete the coastal trip, we wound our ways up the hills overlooking the peaceful town and managed to make a few photo stops before heading back down to earth.
Normally that return trip is a tough one to swallow, but we were welcomed at the bottom of the hill with news that the Dodgers (remember them?) had scored 5 runs in the 9th inning this afternoon to take the series from Arizona and once again move into a first place tie with the Diamondbacks. So if you had to start the week somewhere, first place is a nice place to be.
